I just purchased the Creating Power System without even doing the normal research and reviews of the book. However, I did do a search afterwards which led me to this page. And your blog helped me feel 100% confident about my purchase. You are so relateable and everything you said is exactly what I do. I'm emotional about this because I am beyond ready for change yet still nervous. But like you, I will keep making the efforts towards positive change. Thank you for your blog ;-)

Hey man,

I was at Cliffside at the same time as you (1967-1973). Think I remember you vaguely, what's your last name?

Brilliant article,

Fulfillment comes when we can realize that there does not need be a purpose for our lives.
Rather, that if we live in the moment and do deeds for others then the journey through life becomes the purpose. That is what family and a community can bring to ones life. If one is fortunate to have family later in life then one can give back much of what was received in youth. By coming back to ones roots you can start new connections in the place where your journey started so many years ago. Vancouver Island is rich in its heritage and its established older communities. People are drawn to its slower paced, quieter less hectic way of life. Family and community can both renew and invigorate ones life. May you have many more in idyllic Parksville.

Wow Tim,

Excellent Article, as you can probably imagine, I have been anxiously waiting for you to write these words. By writing what you did and by quoting Nightingale & Hill you are now able to believe in the endless possibilities that our lives have to offer. Its how we view them, its what actions we take, its what dreams we dare to dream. With our lives being as short as they obviously are, there is no time to waste, we just get on with all the possible joys life has for us. If we do not immediately find them at first, we know that somewhere up around a corner there is something to be happy about and to be able to share with those we love.

What a great piece Tim,

Working with your hands and having company about is something I always new would be good for you. Sometimes the simplestof tasks can have the most impact on ones well being. Being able to focus on one task at a time is far preferred to our modern world of constantly being interupted and multi-tasking with those blasted computers. Congratulations Tim, enjoy the good rewarding life and thank Dave too for making this chapter appear in your life.

Great Post !

It is truly amazing that some people with such insurmountable afflictions can somehow overcome them, if only in their minds. If it is genetic that we are pre-disposed to pessimism or optimism then changes to behavior should be implemented to reverse certain habits or moods. Whether it be by doing something good for someone else or treating yourself to something special once in a while.
By sharing your life with someone else a purpose can be found, and that can be with your existing family that love you and brought you into this world or by sharing your life with a non family member. This includes animals as well. Doing things for others is a fulfilling existance

Great Comments,

When we lose someone close we are left with the void that follows, it can be filled with all the good and great things that were shared throughout many years. Hopefully in years ahead these will only grow. Whatever you were to someone , after they are gone, you still are. One of the best eulogies I have heard goes something like this,

" Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped into the next roon. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other , that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used to. Put no difference in your tone wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we once enjoyed together. Play , smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name ever be the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. it is the same as it ever was. I am waiting for you , for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.";...

Great Article,

I hadn't heard of the term Executive Function before. It gives one to ponder however. Together with a persons spontaneity, which you have, then as long as the endeavor is something you wish to do then let nothing stand in your way. Few people are that spontaneous, but using the tools of discipline and executive function added to creativity or new ideas, thinking outside the box, it is possible executive function is anyones missing element to acheiving personal success. Like a golf swing, unless there is proper follow through the ball will not attain its full distance potential.
